Proper Earplug Fitting
Figured this might help someone be more comfortable and provide better hearing protection.
Also don't forget to put them in. See post 17.Last edited by QuackXP; July 26th, 2019 at 08:44 PM.

I was one of those people. The difference is night and day. Thanks again.

Re: Proper Earplug Fitting
Thank you, I will give foam plugs another try. I use earmuffs because foam would always come out or not provide real hearing protection. Muffs are ok for pistol but can get in the way while shooting rifles. I see so many people with plugs in wrong that are obviously not offering any protection. I used to just roll half the plug down and it would have creases in it, because of this I got little protection and they would come out.

Re: Proper Earplug Fitting
My bad. Looks like I sucked at the internets that day. It's fixed now.
I shoot mostly pistol and muffs where always more convenient for me. Although I kept some fresh plugs in my bag for guests or if I was using both at a noisy indoor range. Especially ones that permitted magnums.Last edited by QuackXP; September 15th, 2011 at 11:46 AM.

Re: Proper Earplug Fitting
A word to the wise. I didn't know what I was doing with foam plugs one day at the range three years ago. I just stuffed them in and figured that was good enough. My left ear rang for days and I heard a twangy, high pitched sound in that ear. Turned out I lost a good bit of hearing that day. Now I double up with plugs and muffs at the range to protect what hearing I still have. My grand-daughter loves to imitate me by saying "What? What did you say? I can't hear you." Funny huh? Not so much.

Re: Proper Earplug Fitting
Try these "No-Roll Ear Plugs. I've been using them for years. They fit in easily, they are comfortable, don't work themselves out, keep their shape, provide a high noise level protection (NNR 29), and are washable and reusable. I usually get 6 month's of weekly wear out of a single pair.

Re: Proper Earplug Fitting
Came across this thread while searching for another thread of mine. Figured id bump this as I rarely see any discussion about proper earplug fitting and some people have found it useful.

Re: Proper Earplug Fitting
OP, thanks for the link. The best thing I did was go to a hearing aid center and have custom fit plugs made. I wear a set of electronic muffs over top and can still hear conversations/range commands while at the range. I think I paid $75 for the customs, but they are worth every bit in my opinion.
