good 380 defensive round
My sister just bought a bersa .380 for her first pistol. I have heard that hollow ponts are not a good choice for the 380 because they are underpowered to expand properly, and if expanded wont penatrate well. True? sources?
I dont want any of the "if its not a 45 its crap!". She has a 380, what should she feed it?

Re: good 380 defensive round
Personally, I keep a few HP's in there. I doubt they expand because they are cheap, so let's just call them JHP's with storage space. Can't help you on the balistics but personally, I am considering carrying the Bersa until I find alternate protection.
(Oh, and at first I thought you typed "308 defensive round" which would be slightly different )

Re: good 380 defensive round
IMHO I have no problem with fmj for a .380
I would rather rely penetration than expansion with that round.
Som decent info here.

Re: good 380 defensive round
I have read a lot on this round and it seems the consensus may be that the CorBon DPX is the HP of choice and the American Eagle in FMJ. I alternate them in my P3-AT.

Remington Golden Saber 102 gr., Horndady 95gr. XTP, or FMJ if you're concerned about penetration.

Re: good 380 defensive round
I carry a P3AT everyday. I have it loaded with Remington UMC FMJ from Walmart. From the research I did, I found that .380 JHP would expand and not penetrate to acceptable standards. The .380 FMJ did penetrate and would work better. So this is what I do. Some people alternate. But I just load up with FMJ.
Again, no tests of my own, just the research I did.

Corbon makes pow'r'ball. Buffalo Bore also makes great ammo for everything I've shot.
