Question Ever had a self defense encounter?

I'm curious: have you ever been involved in a self defense encounter when you felt the need to brandish or even fire a weapon to defend yourself? Please be honest.

I pepper sprayed an attacking dog once. Does that count?

Yes. Did have to present, did not have to discharge.

I have not, actually, I hope I never do - but when I must, I feel bad for whoever it is. I have to move to PA first.

I've had to occasions, both in Tampa FL. ...and folks wonder why I wont live down there again.

    1. circa 1986-87 When I was home sick from school a guy road up to our back door under the carport on a bicycle and kicked it in. I retrieved dad's Stevens 16ga SxS from the den and met him in the kitchen as he opened the door from the utility room. I was was just in the process of closing the action as the door opened, which I immediately brought the gun to bear. He look directly at me and crapped himself as he took off back the way he came. Yep, he shit himself right there.

    2. circa 1993. I was sitting at the traffic light at 56th St and Hillsborough Ave by what used to be East Lake Square Mall. There were 2 lanes of north bound traffic and a inside turning lane. I was second in line in the fast lane. Well a car of hoodlums pulled up in the turning lane, then the passenger got out and tried carjacking the lady in front of me. I retrieved my 1911 from my glovebox, stepped out and took cover behind my 71' Plymouth Satellites door and aimed right at his melon. I ordered him to stop, he turned and looked, then dived head first in the car he launched his attack from. They ran the red light and was last seen heading over the bridge on Hillsborough Ave westward.

    Does using toxic gas count?

I was being surrounded by a flash mob and I let loose a mighty fart, the likes of which have not been smelled since the great Mexican bean wars of 1837, and all but one fell. He had a head cold and was impervious to the stench, so I kicked him in the nads and stood tall in my victory.

    Suddenly, this thread shows potential.
While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

Long ago in a dark parking lot in that Illinois area where it is prohibited. Very large individual of another ethnic group with a knife and a desire to have what was mine.
One shot fired missed and a moment later was in the parking lot all by myself.
