Default RIA Tactical, Ambi Grips Necessary? Anybody Know?

I did a quick Google search, didn't find much. I just found a really good deals on some VZs, but they aren't cut for an ambi safety. I don't think I need them to be though...

    Dammit I hate being a 1911 noob...

I'm not at home so I can't actually look at the gun...

    Thanks fellas.

I just worked the ambi safety on mine, and I see no reason why ambi cut grips would be required. Mine looks like this:

My pleasure. I had pretty much put VZ grips out of my mind for awhile. That is, until now.

i can not say about the vz grips but my rosewood grips had to be worked to clear the ambi safety. just on the rh side, mr dremel took care of it. a little stock wax on the raw wood sealed things up.

No ambi needed. My VZ operator II's are slim line with no ambi.

Follow this link. It shows how most/some 1911's safetys are. Kinda a full lower hinge part of the safety on the passenger side of the gun. the RIA Tac's don't have this kind of safety (at least mine didn't, all the ones I've seen on the internet, and my LGS).

I looked at that yesterday, just couldn't compare it with the actual gun. Thanks!

Here is my old gun. VZ told me they would NOT need cut, but they did - I just did it myself. There wasn't enough room to fully disengage the safety, I had to file down the upper left hand portion of the grip.
