The rounds pictured are the now banned Elite Ammunition Trident T6. A solid copper pre-fragmented dart with an advertised velocity of 2600fps/405 fpe energy from the Five SeveN pistol.

It's been reclassified as armor piercing, and all stocks of the ammunition were seized by the ATF, including all rounds that had already been purchased by customers. Damn...

That ammo looks COOL. I don't get the whole armor piercing ammo thing... It's a fucking bullet. It's job is to punch holes in things. What is the difference...

Almost all major rifle calibers zip through steel and nearly any kind of body armor. Any asshole with a cheap lathe can buy a few bits of tungsten or iron scrap and make himself a magazine full of armor piercing (ANY) caliber bullets.

And copper wasn't on the listed prohibited bullet materials either. Which makes that ruling (I should say "feeling" since no one regulates the ATF apparently) bullshit.

If anything, they should be applauded for their efforts of maintaining a lead free bullet design. It's eco friendly. And stuff.

As if Elite's 28gr aluminum core JHP S4 round at an identical 2600fps and 405fpe of energy will penetrate any less in practical terms...

It seems like the BATFE has a hard on against the 5.7 The media has done a fair job of demonizing it too.

Velocity is the point on smaller bullets, and if you get a piece of metal moving fast enough, it's going to penetrate rather nicely.

I would be interested in seeing the numbers on a Glock 24 with a 357 sig conversion. I know the 17L can move a hot 9mm 115 up to 1500 fps, perhaps the 24/sig could break 1650-1700. As I understand it 3A has trouble with heavier bullets moving over 1500.

Just a mental exercise, but the ATF isn't doing anything but keeping quality ammo out of the hands of citizens imho.

Edit, doubletap 357 sig with a 115 is 1700 fps out of a g24.

That's sizzling.

Doubletap actually sells a 9mm+P Barnes TAC-XP 80gr solid copper hollowpoint that they list at 1560fps from a G17 too. I'd be fairly surprised if that won't penetrate Class IIA armor.

looking at the numbers, seems like 1900 with a 80 gr solid copper 357 sig out of a 6" barrel.

I wouldn't rely on iiia with that coming at me.

The only thing holding back the five seven imho is ammo cost/not a walmart round. I had one, traded it, and would get another one if the opportunity presented. One thing i noticed, is it was friggin loud.

Great shooter, light as anything and limited recoil even with superraptors.

Elite ammunition is really no more expensive than any premium defensive ammunition for any other popular caliber.

Elite charges $57 for a box of 50 of their S4 or Protector rounds. That's barely over a dollar a shot. Very favorable when comparing it to the retail price of Corbon DPX. Even in 9mm that line is about $30 per 20 shots, or about $1.50 a shot.

The FN SS195LF and SS197SR stuff is only $22 per 50, which is really cheap when you consider that it's premium grade ammunition that can be used as defensive or hunting ammunition too.

But yeah, no one makes a cheap-o plinking round for 5.7 that i've seen.

Loud, low recoil and.....accurate.
I shot this group the other day - isn't there always a flyer - at 100 yards. Seated on the grass, hands braced on my knees, iron sights, 197SR ammo. The gun's accuracy always impresses me.

Looks like brass or bronze. Anyway, banning them is worthless. Any one with a lathe and reloading equipment can make those rounds by the thousands. Don't have a lathe? Farm the bullets out to a local machine shop and reload them yourself. The stupidity of the ATF is awsome.

The 9x25 dillion will launch an 80gr. TacXP copper bullet well over 2,000fps out of a 6" barrel.
