Susquehanna River to Crest at 38 Feet in Wilkes-Barre
They should start moving stuff along the river In West Pittston about now. Glad I don't work on that side of the river any longer.
http://www.wnep.com/weather/severewe...,1468002.story
The National Weather Service is prediction the Susquehanna River will crest at Wilkes-Barre at 38 feet at 2 a.m. Friday.
If the prediction holds true, that would be the second highest crest ever reported.
The only higher crest would be the 41 foot crest at the peak of Hurricane Agnes in 1972.
The Luzerne County Emergency Management Agency is meeting with county officials at 5:30 p.m.
Newswatch 16 is monitoring the situation and will have updates as they become available.troll Free. It's all in your mind.

Re: Susquehanna River to Crest at 38 Feet in Wilkes-Barre
tell me about it! it took over me over two hours to get home today, when it normally takes 30 minutes. i was at school (selinsgrove) and my parents came from lewisburg to give me a ride. I am glad they did because i would have hydro-locked my motor. i let my car sit at school because its too low for even a little water. Almost every road is flooded in my area. It is rediculous. Parts of my town are starting to be evacuated. The GF said parts of bloomsburg is starting to evacuate also.
One funny thing was that my dad did manage to get his subie to float a little when we went through a deep spot.
Anyone driving should be very careful. hopefully you don't have to venture out. Call off sick its not worth the trouble. good luck to who ever has to.

Re: Susquehanna River to Crest at 38 Feet in Wilkes-Barre
I just checked the National Weather Service's forecast. We still have the potential for another 4 inches of rain between now and Saturday morning.
Fortunately, most of the rain you guys got today (all day) stayed somewhere between 5-10 miles west of us. We had steady hard rain all last night, but it shifted and we just got mist and drizzle most of the day.
I don't think I've ever seen the ground this saturated in the 10 years we've been in this house. I just hope we don't get any high winds. We'll have trees down everywhere.Sed ego sum homo indomitus

Re: Susquehanna River to Crest at 38 Feet in Wilkes-Barre
The latest word is that it will crest at 40.9 feet. This is very close to what we had during Agnes. They recently put gates on the major bridge in Wilkes Barre. It will over flow at 41 feet.
The local bridges are closed. There are curfews in effect. The local post offices are closed.
Just on the news. The sewers in Pittston are backing up.Last edited by normanvin; September 8th, 2011 at 02:53 PM.

After this is over and the mud dries, anyone who lives there or works the clean up needs to protect their lungs from any kind of dust as the dirt will be highly toxic.
Many people who worked the Agnes clean up ended up with lung problems, and take it from someone with lung problems, YOU DON'T WANT ANY.Government 99 and 44/100 % pure bullshit.
