That's what I was thinking with switching to a right handed rifle. But the question I have is do you have to move your head when you cycle the bolt in the prone position.

Which eye do you look through in regards to the reticle? If it is your left, then no hoss, you do not need to move your cheek. Just make sure your eye reliefe is properly set, or your bolt will go through your eye

I'm left handed and I've switched all my guns over to lefty models. I'm glad I did it and couldn't see going back....especially with my bolt guns.

I adapted to right hand stuff for a lot of years and got tired of it. The final straw was getting a blast of hot gas/powder in the eye (snuck in around my shooting glasses)

Lefty shooting right handed rifles all my life. Benefit is I can shoot as well with either hand, either side. I do prefer shooting a righty rifle lefty. As mentioned above, if you have your eye relief correct, you can cycle the bolt without breaking cheek weld OR taking your finger out of the trigger guard. It doesn't work as well in long action magnum calibers, but you aren't exactly trying to put 20 338 lapua mag rounds downrange in 20 seconds.

I don't own a bolt action rifle but I always fired them left handed. When I buy my first bolt action it will be right handed rifle. I'm just hoping to find one that isn't like the Mosin Nagant and I can open up the bolt without it running over my thumb so I don't need to move my trigger finger.

I'm a lefty, and do not own a conventional bolt for this reason. just don't want to be bothered. I am right eye dominant and wish I had taken the time long ago to adjust to shooting right handed. Would have been a lot easier in the long run.

Left eye. Learned that way in Scouts when I was 14. Taught to figure dominant eye first then go from there. It became second nature, handle a shotgun the same way. At this point trying to shoot a long arm from the right is uncomfortable.

I am left handed, and shot left handed until I went to Navy boot camp. On the rifle range, my CC told me I am not left handed because he has no left handed people. I shot right handed and did OK. In submarine school, I had to qualify with a 1911. That guy also said he had no left handed people.

I shoot right handed to this day.

The problem with the bolt being on the wrong side can be solved by turning the rifle around.

Of course, you'll have to use a mirror, and all your shots will be trick shots, but you'll amaze your friends when you become proficient at such.
