ATI pistol grip AR style stocks
I have a Mossberg 835 and I want to put a tactical AR style collapsible pistol grip stock on it from ATI for when I'm turkey hunting.
The problem I have is the ATI website does not say specifically that this stock will fit the 835. The 500/590 is mentioned specifically on the website but not the 835. Other catalogs say it will fit ALL Mossberg pump shotguns.
Does anyone know if this thing will fit my 835? Has anyone tried it? I don't want to spend 60 or 70 bucks if it's not going to work.
Here's the link for the stock I'm considering:

Thanks.

Re: ATI pistol grip AR style stocks
Save your money...ATI sucks...it's cheap junk.
Why worry about the "tacticool" stuff...why not buy something that's actually useful?
Seems everyone wants tactical this and that...I guess products sell more when you add the term tactical to the description.

Re: ATI pistol grip AR style stocks
I was hoping you wouldn't say that. ATI seems to be the only company that makes a stock like that with an affordable price.

Re: ATI pistol grip AR style stocks
Karys,
I agree that the pistol grip will be easier to handle over long periods. This is especially true if you have any scar tissue or injuries to your wrists, elbows, or shoulders. This is exactly the reason I run VFGs on my M4 and most of my ARs. Well, not for turkey hunting, but you get the point.
I can't speak, as others have, to the quality (or lack thereof) of ATI, but I would be inclined to believe aubie.
I can't imagine that firing serious turkey loads out with an AR stock is pleasant at all. That stock design is wonderful for a 5.56 rifle. With 3" or 3.5" loads I think it would be positively abusive.
Go to the "Home Defense" thread and read JayBell's post about how he fires 3" mags out of his SBS (short barrelled shotgun) ONE HANDED. By the looks of it, this gun weighs, max, three, maybe four pounds on the outside. I had serious questions about whether they worked or not, too, but this pretty well answered it.

Yes, it's a lot more money, but I suspect that this is a case of "buy once, cry once." Although if I was shooting a lot of heavy mags out of an 835, I would probably be crying fairly regularly. But I'm kind of a wimp.Last edited by DPB; November 20th, 2006 at 12:57 PM. Reason: Linkage

Re: ATI pistol grip AR style stocks
DBP,
Since you put it that way, maybe I should take a serious look at the recoil reduction system. I'm no wimp, but a 3 1/2" turkey load hurts from a sitting position, even from the bench at the range. There's some new ammo I want to pattern before hunting this spring, and I can remember the agony I went through when I patterned my current load.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I read JayBell's post and I think that's what I need.

Re: ATI pistol grip AR style stocks
Yeah, I haven't used this stock, but I've launched enough buckshot and slugs to think it might be a great idea.
Shooting 1 oz. slugs out of a 6.5 pound Mossberg 500 = no fun at allPREPARE FOR BATTLE
