Re: What did you buy yourself today (Photo thread)...
I used to be a dealer, I still help one out.
A couple local dealers have my number for when they get the good stuff in.
I have many contacts I guess is one way to put it.
Almost two years ago a contact in California sent me an email asking if I had or know someone who has something he was looking for so he could finish his latest book.
He needed two import marks to include in his section on E. German Makarovs.
I had one and I know a guy who had the other.
This author looked for months for a picture of these two importers marks and couldn't believe I had one and found him the other in a matter of days.
So if I ever go to sell that particular item I can say it's a published gun, will it make it worth any more? Who knows, but it's a cool story that gives a little extra something to that particular pistol.
A retired guy in Florida that used to do the gunshow circuit in the early 90's just sent me some pics of a couple older 1911's he is looking to sell or trade.
While I'm not a 1911 guy we are working on a deal right now as increasing my collection for the benefit of my kids later down the road is my goal.
As for selling, I buy way more than I sell, I don't post pictures of even 5% of what I buy here.
Without counting, I've bought 40+ guns this year, maybe sold 4 or 5 and that's only because I had something better on the hook so I let go a lesser example to improve my collection.
Much of the stuff I do sell I've owned for a while.
I will buy a group of guns to get a deal and will sell one or two of the group that I really didn't want, but that's how you can get the good deals, take a group of guns off of someones hands in one deal, this saves them the aggravation of dealing with multiple buyers while giving you the leverage to haggle.
I know a certain poster here thinks this is bragging, but it's not, I just like to explain my methods in the hopes they could assist others in building up their own collections.
Say you like Remington model 12's, let the local dealers know.
They may or may not call you.
Sometimes they will have someone selling but their price is too high for them to buy and resell.
They might call you and get you into contact with the seller.
This is a great way to get your collecting preferences out there.
That guy might know a guy, who also knows other guys or knows of a shop where there is someone you are looking for sitting on a rack.
Networking old fashioned style.

I'm going to be driving around Dante's Peak with Pierce Brosnan trying to escape a volcano!
On Saturday I picked up a vehicle to use in Gambler 500 races and to make into a camping/offroading rig.
1990 Suburban for $800. Already got 4.56 gears, a front locker, and 36" tires lined up. I'm going to try and get by with no lift and just trimming the shit out of the fenders. Avoid having a big gay truck that doesn't flex.
350 with TBI, auto, 1/2 ton running gear.

Re: What did you buy yourself today (Photo thread)...
Went to my local LGS this morning. Was looking for something used in full sized but selection wasn't that great in that aspect. A nice Gen4 G21 for $499 and some S&W SVDE or something like that.
Asked if they had any used Shields. They did. A used S&W Shield 9, single stack 9mm. It came with a holster & one magazine. I looked for more mags on the shelf but there were none but the 7rd ones. While waiting for background check which mind you only took 10 minutes, the clerk came out with three mags. He said these go with this. So for $279 plus the background check and taxes I came out with a Shield 9, (4) mags & an IWB plastic holster. Not too bad. Happy belated birthday gift to me.
S&W Shield 9
(2) 8rd mags
(2) 7rd mags
(1) Plastic holster
No box though or case. Overall looks to be in good condition.
Also picked up two boxes of 124gr Blazer Brass ammo and some Critical Defense rounds.
Will be removing the grip tape that's on it.
Back into the 9mm party again.Last edited by PA1936MN; May 16th, 2017 at 12:01 PM.
