Has some road rash, but it went through a war with a Luftwaffe pilot, for goodness sake. All numbers match, except the magazine. Four-digit serial number, one of the first 5,000 of over 70,000 made under the German contract.

Ahhh the smell of a bargain on a neat old rifle. 1941 Remington model 512 Sportmaster. Gentleman traded it and I walked in right after. But note the checkering - that's not stock. Gentleman's Father hand engraved it and it's amazing! Nice period scope as well. Love finds like this …………..

That's some amazing work. Can't believe anyone would trade that. Wood is gorgeous too.

I bet the shop doesn't even bother inventory-ing any trades, they probably just leave them on the counter for you.

Walnut and steel. Bet it shortened the lifespan of quite a few varmints in its day. Nice catch. It paid to stop in.

My thoughts exactly, I don't care what the value, condition, etc. of any of my Dad's guns - they stay with me until I leave this world

For sure. Besides the engraving/checkering, the wood was amazing, especially being 78 years old !

Stopped into my local shop yesterday and wound up bringing home this Springfield XDS mod2. Seems like a great little 9. I put a box of ammo through it last night was was impressed...but need some more time with it. It has the front night sight and seemed like a great deal @ $395. It's the first Springfield I've had, and it sure seems nice. It came with a target from it's test firing...which was equally impressive.XDS.jpg

I posted a WTB on a MeWe forum looking for a holster for my new Femaru pistol. A gentleman from a rural gunshop in Kentucky replied. I just bought his 1942 German made holster to go with the pistol for a very fair price.

Happy. Now for a spare magazine.
