Picked up a used Walther PPQ SC yeaterday. After cleaning it I went to the range to shoot it this evening but their electric was out. Hopefully they payed their bill.

IMG_6921.JPGWell, I got it back today.

I bought this New Vaquero Short Spur Talo edition at Oaks. The dealer was great...and I think it was a tremendous deal....but when I got it home, the finish seemed a bit cloudy. When I saw it at the show, I assumed it would wipe off and look fine, but it didn't. I found another couple little issues and sent pics to Ruger. They wanted it back. After a week, it came returned to me and is beautiful. I just saw on the Talo site that they're sold out.

I’ve been on a mission to do a better job of policing my cases at the club’s outdoor range. Cheap AR catchers abound; and I even fabricated one to work with my Kel-Tec RDB, as I posted a few weeks ago. Today I even attached one to the Sub2K and it worked fine.

AKs, however, have been a challenge. The ones I found online range from $10 to $250. The $10 is an AR catcher masquerading as an AK, deceptive advertising. However, I did find one, not advertised as working with AKs that actually does, and very well, too. It’s made by Caldwell, it’s long enough to allow the charging handle to move back and forth without hitting it, it folds open to allow access to the charging handle and safety, and it cost $21 from amazon. Caldwell product number is 110038.

    Recommended.

That looks very effective. Do they make them for pistols?

I spend more time picking up brass than I do emptying it. Trying to be a good example to the kids, leave no trace. I usually pick up more brass than I shot because there are a lot of range slobs who don't bother picking up at all.

If your pistol’s slide doesn’t move, if the bolt cycles internally, something should be possible, I suppose, though I haven’t seen any. Since on most pistols the slide moves but the dust cover is fixed it’s not possible to attach one. There are pedestal mounted catchers that get set up alongside the shooting area; they are a bit pricey.

My club has an indoor pistol range, so sweeping up addresses the issue there. Our outdoor PPC ranges do have a good bit of cases lying around. I got started on rifle catchers because a member has adopted the 25 and 50 yard ranges and regularly cleans up after people who don’t police their brass. I was motivated to carefully clean up after myself but I’m getting too old to crawl around on the concrete pad harvesting spent cases. Catchers make more sense.

I currently have a canvas blanket that I throw down beside me when shooting. Some of the brass lands on it.

I like my Gen 2's and didn't have a 21 so...……...Came with all original stuff like Tupperware and goodies. 5 extra mags too. Looks unfired or close to! And fresh from Spain a nice Astra Cadix 2" 32 revolver. Not many of them around - very nice.
