Nice! That's a 96/11 rifle, right? I almost pulled the string on a K11 a few months ago but passed.

I'm not sure if it's a 1896/11 or just a 1911 - I'm not familiar enough with them yet to know the difference. Guy advertised it as a straight 1911. If you or anyone else are sure of what it is, I'd love to hear - otherwise I'll be researching some more when I get it. Just posted in classifieds for anyone that wants to sell some ammo - didn't know surplus has pretty much dried up on 7.5x55 swiss ! Thanks!

Looks to me like a carbine length K11, not a full length K11 or 96/11.

Once you have the serial number you can decipher the exact build date to the month and also take the butt plate off, it's not likely but possible the original owners name tag is in there. You can also decipher the different markings on the receiver as well.

It was said when the Swiss stopped production of GP11 ammo in 1994, they had 700 million rounds on hand. Apparently it is not completely gone but RUAG has decided to start production again this year. It is sold out online but check gun show ammo vendors as I have seen it there, marked up in price to 80 cents a round instead of the usual 50 cents a round or so.

If it shoots straight I would never separate the action from the stock. Swiss armorers tuned these rifles with the tang and band screws to perfection.

Thanks! I'll be doing some more research when I get it. I was thinking about gunshows too for ammo - need to see when the next Harrisburg one comes around for sure!

Prvi Partisan makes new 7.5 Swiss and it works fine.

If the last six digits 114xxx are the number, then yours comes from 1923. Otherwise the entire number you gave doesn't match up. It's possible you might have a Model 1889/00 or 1905 carbine upgraded to a K11 carbine.

Thanks, I was unsure of the modern stuff and thought it would be best to stick to surplus - but if the PRVI is good, I might end up going that route. I'll have to check the numbers when it comes in - I couldn't tell from the pics but the seller said that was the serial number - although when looking up Schmidt Rubin serial numbers, like you said, it didn't match up ?
