Re: What did you buy yourself today (Photo thread)...
Being a blue sky kills the collectability of it. From what I gathered m1 carbine collectors are a snooty bunch. I think a lot of the blue sky stuff is over hyped internet BS. I was reading one a thread on a carbine forum that by the end of it declared that NIB blue sky's were covered in mold and had bolts that wouldn't stay in the op rods.
Amazingly though if I were to find a winchester barrel for it all that would magically disappear and it would turn into a highly desirable historical artifact that was probably carried by Patton's toilet cleaner

Fascinating, that goes to show you not everything on the internet is true. The biggest thing I heard was something about an import stamp they put on the barrel. I rather save $600-$700 and have a working M1 Carbine personally, forget about how collectable it is. I would even consider a commerical model but not with the issues a lot of them have. Anyway, even though I don't need a rare collectable model one built during the war with some history would be nice. I might be purchasing a USGI model with my tax return and I am not too happy how most of them are running for $1000 recently.
Sanity, yours if you can keep it.....

Re: What did you buy yourself today (Photo thread)...
Ya sky blue was a importer.
These guns are normally mis-matched and made of various parts from different makers of the m1.
Their imported surplus military guns like M1 carbine and Garand were from Korea I believe. These were guns sold or transferred to foreign countries and declared surplus to their needs by these countries. Federal law required the importers name to be stamped on the gun, which kills the value.
Also, I have been told that the they were notorious for stamping their name very heavily on the barrel, often distorting the bore and interfering with accuracy.
Because of those, most collectors look down on import marked carbines and they bring around only about $400 or so.Audemus jura nostra defendere
