That may be the most striking barrel stamp I've ever seen. Impossible to duplicate. The cartouche on the stock puzzles me though - given the condition of the stock, shouldn't there be scratches through the cartouche? Maybe I just didn't see them..

It is a nice looking rifle. I don't say this to be an a$$, but I don't know why you think there should be scratches on the cartouche. The stock is in pretty good shape with a few handling marks. The finger groove area has the most wear (you can see that area is lighter than the rest of the stock). It is struck very well. I have a 1942, and the cartouche isn't as well struck. The 42 isn't scratched up either. I bought this 43 from a recent auction that had a lot of Civil Guard M39's (there were so many, it was almost impossible for me to not try to buy one). I'm very excited over the two rifles that will arrive tomorrow.
