If the Army went back to .45 will you?
I read an article today that the Army is looking to replace the M9. There's obviously speculation about .40 and .45 caliber and a bunch of manufacturers in the running. The question is, if you're mostly a 9mm guy and the Army or DOD switches wholesale to .45 would if effect your collection...your future caliber purchasing decisions?

I've never left the .45 platform.
I might consider trying out some 9mm, since there will be a whole shitload of surplus M9s out there!"...a REPUBLIC, if you can keep it."

Re: If the Army went back to .45 will you?
I'll bet not. The government will destroy them or warehouse them until they are rusted, frozen up and worthless. Just like those M1 Garands in South Korea. I also believe the gun manufacturers would be plenty happy if this never happened as well. Who would by a new Kimber for +/- $1000 if they could pick up a milsurp M9 for $200? I think this would torpedo the entire gun manufacturing industry if the market was suddenly flooded with 500k Barrettas and 1.5M Garands.

I may downgrade to the 9 if the surplus ones are cheap enough, just to say I have one.

Re: If the Army went back to .45 will you?
I already have a 9mm and a 1911 - both of which are on dresser drawer duty. ...so it wouldn't mean squat to me other than I'd try to pick up a one of the M9's if they were to be released to the public.

Re: If the Army went back to .45 will you?
For civilian duty, 9mm suits me just fine-- high capacity, high velocity, flat trajectory, manageable recoil, and, with an expanding bullet, provides more than enough stopping power against any human being.
Since the Army can't use hollow-points, however, I would actually recommend 10mm Auto-- about the same recoil as a 45ACP, with massive stopping power, as much magazine capacity as a 40S&W, and a significantly higher velocity than either.
