Got a new toy last week
I have been looking for a revolver for a while now. Something that I would enjoy shooting. I don't carry much so I mainly wanted a range gun. I was at the range and saw this great looking SW 66. Loved it but it was too small.
The sales guy showed me a SW 686 and I knew it was the one. Picked it up for under 500 and it is in great shape. Took it to the range all weekend.
I used both .38 and 357 mag....I thought the .38 was going to be cheaper but that was not the case. I need to find a place to load up on .38 and 357...any recommendations?Last edited by Mango; August 30th, 2011 at 11:01 PM.

Re: Got a new today last week
I'm sorry but I am still stuck on the title "Got a new today last week". It's literally hurting my head.

The SW 686 is apparently almost identical to my Taurus 689 so, Good choice!
.38 special isn't the cheapest ammunition around. The cheapest retailer I've seen selling it is Dick's Sporting goods. They sell boxes of 200 lead for approx 60$. Besides that Walmart usually sells Winchester for approx 18$ per 50.

Re: Got a new today last week
My new today was lost yesterday, fortunitely Ive got another one coming next month when my new week gets here.
With that said, at the moment, Walmart seems to be the best place to get 38 target ammo.

Re: Got a new toy last week
Congrats on the new toy... I have pretty much eliminated shooting lead 38's out of mine due to the extra cleaning required in the cylinder. The lead builds up and is a bugger to get out. I don't have that problem when I shoot 357's.
It is just as cheap and easy for me to reload the 357's as it is 38's.

Re: Got a new toy last week
reloading for my right now is not an option...I just dont get to shoot it that often. It would take a while for me to get even not to mentioned the time contraint of reloading. Maybe in a few years...
My my Glock I had to use FMJ Brass..no steel or lead. I guess with the 686 I would be able to use steel ammo?

Re: Got a new today last week
That is a lot like pulling up to a stop light in a Kia and looking over at a Mercedes E55 AMG and saying to the driver of the Merc "Good choice, your car is almost identical to mine."
Smith and Wesson has been around since 1852... Taurus copies Smith. Just because you bought it does not make it superior to the others. A Taurus revolver cannot even hope to compare to a Smith and Wesson. The 686 is superior to any Taurus .357, every damn day of the week.Join the groups protecting your rights from the fools trying to take them from you!
