    Default Taurus Model 856 Hy-lite .38 Spec.

Was messing with one of these at a local gun shop and I like it at first glance. They're asking $325 for a used one. Anyone have any experience or know about these at all? Thanks

Can't help out w/ any first hand knowledge, but here's some info from a Taurus Forum site. Probably more there if you poke around.

    IMHO not good.

You can get an ultralight S&W for almost that same price.

What about the model 85? Almost the same thing except 5 shot instead of 6

I have a Taurus 85 in 38 special it shoots a functions fine but for standard pressure 38 it should be a lot lighter . I think it is a good end table gun but for another hundred dollars you could get a smith and Wesson 637 witch is a lighter and better built gun . my local shop has one now for $428

The only reason I'm drawn more to the Taurus is because of the single action option

The 637 has a hammer and gives you the single action option

    Thanks for the info!

I see the 637 only weighs 15 oz, how's the recoil with that gun?
