Default Ruger SR9 hard to find?

So I've been looking into handguns for a few months and I've decided to buy a new Ruger SR9. At my local store, Braverman Arms, they only had stock of the SR9C, so I put down a deposit for them to order one. They said that shipments come in every two weeks or so.

I've called back a few times to check, and they've had at least two deliveries from distributors, but still no SR9. When I pressed them on the phone about when to expect it, they couldn't say anything except that the distributors are waiting to receive stock.

It will be four weeks on Monday since I put down my deposit, and I am left wondering what to do. Is it normal in the firearms industry to have unpredictable lead times like this? In the meantime I've called several other shops in the Pittsburgh area, and only one has them in stock - Anthony Arms, and they're asking $469. Given the $50 price premium over Braverman, plus the fact that people have had better experiences with them, I'm inclined to wait.

My second question is this: is the SR9 losing popularity, or is this the normal waxing and waning of handguns? Most shops seem to have the SR9C or the LC9, plus the typical Glocks and M&Ps.

I think Ruger is one of those manufacturers that produce certain pistols in runs, then retool for another pistol and make a run of those, and repeating so on. The stores don't have them because the distributors don't have them because Ruger hasn't made them is my best bet. I personally think you should wait it out and get one when your local store gets them in.

Go to http://www.galleryofguns.com/genie/default.aspx and look for the one you want. You can find a dealer they ship to and order today and pick it up in 2 working days. They have a load of them.

Powell Guns in Penn Hills had several fullsize SR9's when I was there last week. He's only open Friday and Saturday though. But he has them on the shelf and more in the back.
Ace in Washington also had 2-3 as well.

Gander Mountain down by Washington has them. Talk to to Tobey and tell him Kyle sent you.

I actually talked to Powell's Guns, but they said they only had them in black. I think I'll wait another week before making the trek to Washington.

Patience can be a difficult thing!

Do a goggle search for gun shops in your area. Call them to see if they have
the gun and model you want. If they don't they can all order one for you.
Usually they are buying from a distributor not the Company. If one distributor
is out of them another might have one in stock. Call around for availability and
pricing. You would be amazed at the money you can save with just a phone call.
