Default Lefty shooting a right handed bolt rifle

I would like to know if any one is a left handed shooter and you shoot a right handed bolt action rifle.

I'm left handed, but right eye dominant, so I have to shoot from the right shoulder. My first gun was a righty bolt action given to me by my grampa and shooting it has never been a problem. However, I choose lever and slide action for hunting and trap now.

I am the oppisite of you I am right handed but left eye dominant. I am asking because I want to get a rifle for shooting from a bench but they do not make many left handed models in the .308 caliber with a heavy barrel.

I'm a lefty shooting a right handed bolt rifle. Granted, I don't try and rapid fire stuff with it, but I just hold the rifle with my left hand at the grip (finger OUT of trigger well) and work the bolt with my right hand. It's a bit awkward, but it works.

cross eye here. Right hand left eye shooter who made the change to left side shooter.

Get a savage 10FLP and be done with it.

Once you use a left hand bolt gun, UNLESS YOU ARE EXCLUSIVELY on the bench, you won't go back, as follow up shots will require you to break check weld.

An EXCLUSIVELY supported shooter (bench, snad bags, bipod) can get away with a right and bolt, because the right hand is not needed to hold sling/support stock, and hence you can shoot left and cycle bolt right.

Pacer that is excatly what I do now. I have a Savage 11gl for hunting. I am looking for a rifle that would be only for benchrest shooting. The right handed rifles have more options then left handed rifles. So that is why I am thinking of going with a right handed rifle

I'm a lefty who has never shot a left handed bolt rifle. I started on a right handed rifle when I was a kid and never had anything else. Never had any real problems.

Remington makes a left handed 700 in a couple of models. I'm left handed and right eye dominant, so I have no problems.. but my brother is the opposite. We both use lever action rifles, so working the action isn't nearly as problematic. He used to shoulder the rifle on his right shoulder and lean the whole way across the stock to look through his scope with his left eye. Just recently he's figured out how to shoot it looking with his right eye..

Honestly, shooting a right handed bolt gun for a south paw like me has its advantages. I can keep on the rifle, and then make fast follow up shots in the prone without taking my finger away from the trigger.
