    Default S&W 638-3 Schematic Needed

I have searched everywhere I can think of and I cannot find a schematic for the 638-3. I am particularly interested in the parts of the lock mechanism. I could probably even use a good clear pdf picture of the internals.

I have checked Brownells, Midway, stevespages, and even called S&W (they will not release schematics any more - their legal dept said no - how the hell can a gunsmith do his job with no drawings).

    Any other thoughts?

Hunt around on this site to see if you can find something adequate.

What are you trying to do? By "lock mechanism", are you talking about the IL? The internal lock's function is the same for all models, IIRC.

I am talking about the locking mechanism that stops the hammer from being cocked. The owner took the mechanism out and while working on it a pin fell out of the frame (and of course got lost), very near where the mechanism is, back towards the grip almost a straight back from where you lock it. The pin has something to do with the lock mechanism as I can put the gun back together and it will function perfectly, except that there is a hole in the frame that normally the pin goes in to.

Gunparts, Brownells and all the others do not show the -3 version of this gun (with the lock). According to customer service at S&W, they will not release any drawings any more (legal dept stopped this).

If I can't find anything that will give me a part number, I'll probably try fitting with blank drill rod until I find the correct size and use that. Or, if the customer doesn't care and is not putting the lock mechanism back in, I'll fill the hole with JB Weld.
