    Default Ruger SR1911 accuracy

I've heard some not so good things about the accuracy of Ruger's 1911 . . anyone have any input on the accuracy (or lack thereof) of this gun?

Careful on what you hear about accuracy from any 1911. The out of the box 1911 is not an X ring gun. In the hands of a good shooter, that knows how to use one, it's a 2 in. group gun. Out of the box, it's a combat gun, but it can be tuned. It's also the shooter. If someone is not a 1911 shooter and does not know how to shoot one, they will NOT get the accuracy they expect. I like 1911's and shoot them a lot. The best I expect from any of mine, is for all the shots to go into a 10 in. circle at 25 yards. But, because it's a 1911, I expect it to go bang every time.

Hitchcok 45 did a review on his youtube channel I like his reviews there practical, he shoots at a variety of ranges at different types of targets. For the $700.00 price tag I don't think you can go wrong. It groups about 2 inches at 25 yards and this pistol compares accuracy wise to those in the $1000.00 to $1400.00 range. This pistol is a step up from entry level 1911's and is priced right at $700.

My SR1911 pending on the yardage and ammo is pretty accurate at 7-15 yards I would say it is a X ring gun. The sights are excellent and the lock ups is pretty tight accept for the brush stainless it would give any other $600+ 1911 a run for its money. My Kimber really all my 1911s because of the trigger are X ring guns at 7-15 yards at 25 yards things seem to open up but that's more me then the guns.

Now my Colt 30 years ago was not an X ring gun at 7-15 yards, now it is.

Yes most groups will open up at 25 yards ,the other thing that you have consider is how they achieve their testing results ,they usually shoot these groups from a bench rest position not a normal standing position and they use a pistol bench rest or they rest the pistol on a sand bag to steady it. What I liked about Hitchcok $5 reviews is that all shooting is done from a standing two hands approach useing practical targets. If i can achieve 3 to 4 inch groups at twenty five yards standing I am happy. Yeah if the groups are smaller even better, but the reality is that most firearms are more accurate than the shooter . For $700.00 the ruger is a good buy. With that I must go to the range and test fire a Kimber 1911 compact and a CZ 52 That I just refinished for some customers.

Yeah Brain old Hicock 45 is a good shot with almost any gun he used to be a competition shooter with his Glocks.

456 - Really modern 1911s of SR 1911 quality can do much better then that. Guns of this quality can do near 2-3" 25 yard slow fire and the 8-10" spread would be a speed drill at 25 yards. The speed drills I was doing with the SR1911 it was doing fist size chest to head ballistic drill at 15 yards and one hole moderate speed dbl taps at 7 yards. Just like the rest of my worked 1911s.

As one of these threads stated most shooters wouldn't be able to tell a $1100-$1400 gun from a $2500 by targets shot.

Thanks fellas . . . I guess I'm not really looking for a target shooting pistol but more of an IDPA type shooter

I absolutely pounded my SR1911; 350 rounds in one day, and I can tell you I'm impressed. At typical defense range (maximum 25 feet) it pokes holes in holes. I got a rapid fire target sitting out at Ace Sporting Goods to prove it, too. Unfortunately, my SR1911 got victimized by a machinist who fell asleep at the wheel, and its going back to Prescott tomorrow for a rework on the feed ramp, or possibly a replacement of the entire frame. You have to see the chatter marks where the cutter head bounced across the feed ramp face to believe it. Some might say "if it feeds, keep it and shoot it". Not me. I paid for first quality goods, and after speaking to the folks at Ruger, they will make it right. If I had the specs, I'd have a friend remove a little metal and polish the ramp to mirror finish, around 25RMS. Since I don't, and the feed ramp is integral to the frame, I'm not going to void the warranty. Besides, Ruger has already sent me a UPS Next Day Air ticket. The only cost I see is waiting a few days for Ruger to return the pistol to me.

Will the Ruger SR1911 finally kill of the incredibly suck-azz Taurus PT1911?
    I sure hope so!!!

I had a Taurus PT1911, and within a 100 rounds that POS bluing was flaking off in big flaky specs from underneath the slide. The so-called "checkering" on the grip also looked like complete SH*T. When I first bought it, I canned the ambi-safety in favor of a regular thumb safety....think you could just swap out the common parts? NOPE...had to have it fitted.

I will NEVER buy another Taurus semi-auto POS pistol. Their revolvers are great, but never again with a semi-auto.

I hope Ruger SLAYS Taurus and all of the other cast slide POS 1911's out there like those cheap RIA's or whatever they are called. Aaack!!!
