Re: new camera = better pictures
4tun8.... looking good. Try a white background and more light not to be confused with the flash built into the camera.
What I did is take a lot of pictures and wrote down exactly what settings and lighting I had for each. I then was able to reproduce consistent quality (That's subjective of course)
The picture of the XD is the best one so far.... Keep them coming!!!!!!!
Best,
Kobsw
Here's one of mine.

Re: new camera = better pictures
Two words;
MACRO SETTING
When you are taking close up shots like that you need to keep the focus close or you get those hazy edges like it's trying to focus behind your object.
Find it. And take some more.
I bet they turn out twice as good.
Another trick is both background, and lighting. Especially when taking pictures up close, using the flash can blow out the image. A separate light source, like a little powerful LED flashlight can work wonders.

Natural light is the best light. Looking forward to more pics.
I'm photographing a wedding right now. Wish I was taking gun pics...
Well, actually I'm sitting in the car outside of a salon. The fiance is inside working. Lol. I'll get my turn soon enough. Word of advice, never hire a male wedding photographer. We really can't do it. Trust me. Salons, and putting wedding dresses on, no bueno. You really need a woman's eye for this stuff. That's why it's nice to have a guy girl team. Although working with your significant other can be... Taxing...

Re: new camera = better pictures
No sure if your camera is able to do this but you need to set a custom white balance to correct color cast.
