Remington 1911 R1 ammo issue
I was gettin ready to load up some 185 gr JHPs for my new Remington 1911 when I saw in the manual where it says the only ammo recommended for it is 230 gr MJ . . . does this mean that you shoudln't shoot anything else in it? Thanks for the help

The recommendation is for what they know will feed the best through it. 1911's should eat the 230gr RN all day long without problems. As for other loads it may depend on the particular 1911. Today most will take most anything reasonable. Try them.
It ain't what they call you, it's what you answer to.

Re: Remington 1911 R1 ammo issue
As long as there is nothing that says "will void warranty if you use" definitely try them. Sometimes, polishing the feed ramp a bit more than the polish job that came on the gun is just enough to get them to feed. Some hollw points will feed where others will not. You may have to try more than one. HP's with a more rounded nose seem to always work the best in 1911's, just from my experience. Ironically, my cheap ass PT 1911 will cycle everything I have tried where my Colt GCT is tempermental.
BCM and Glock...for a bigger pile of 'cold dead hands' brass.
