    Default New 1911 suggestions

Thinking about buying a new 1911, and after selling off a few other guns that are not seeing much use I am thinking that I might have around 2k (might be able to squeeze a little more out of that) to work with for a budget.

Right now I am looking at either at the following:

    Kimber Gold Combat Royal II
    S&W "E" series 1911
    Nighthawk talon II

    Thoughts, suggestions??

Have you ever taken a look at a Sig 1911? You can find good used ones for less than $800 and they are super reliable and 1" @ 25 yards accurate. Very durable too, I carried mine on duty for 2 seasons without issue.

Springfield trp or trophy models.. Use the rest of your money to either buy a ton of ammo or a reloading setup (if you don't have one) and holsters, other guns, etc.

For around 2K you might be able to find a Les Baer, or maybe a used Wilson Combat. That's if you wanted to spend the money on a gun only.

Myself, I'd go with a SA Loaded, (Pick your flavor!), & spend the rest on ammo, good quality holster, etc. But I'm a frugal old fart.

Agree. The SA seems to be the best of the mid-priced 1911s per every recommendations I've found, use the rest of the cash for other things. If you decide your'e not a huge 1911 fan, it will be a lot easier to move a modestly priced SA than take a beating on re-selling a higher-end gun.

STI Lawman or Sentry are worth a look. $1275 and $1440 respectively. STI seems immensely underrated on this forum...perhaps since we're up north.

456 - All those are good selections in 1911s but I could add to that list. The Springfield Trp, STI tacitcle, DWA Valor, used Wilson Combat, Les Baer or Ed Brown and most of these have $500-$600 left, except for the last 3 mentioned. Lately a S&W E series owner stated it only cost him under $900 to own. You could get a nice Colt for under $800. Then you have your SR1911 & PT1911s for under $700 and then some of the Filopino made 1911s for under $400.

Do you really want to spend two g's on a 1911? Is this going to be your first one? Target gun, carry gun, HD? Before I would plunk down that kind of scratch, I would look into puchasing a 1911 that has a good reputation along with a very good price. If you decide you like the platform, sell that one and get one you really want. Right now, no one makes a 1911 that won't do a 3" group or less at twenty five yards, and none of them are junk. The Ruger SR 1911 has tons of good reports, being a new gun, and is 100% made in US, and has no firing pin safety; it is around $600. The Taurus PT 1911 is a very good 1911, made in the Taurus plant, down to the very last pin (Taurus supplies 1911 goodies to other manufacturers, as well, because they have the MIM process down pat); it goes for around 6 bills, as well. If you shot either of these guns 5000 times, you could still get 75% of your cost back as long as you take care of them and don't let them corrode in any way. Colt and Springfield Armory make a number of 1911's in the $900 to $1000 range that are great handguns, but you pay a little for the name (which a lot of us, including myself, do on a regular basis). Nothing wrong with a little pride in your weapon. Regent actually has a milspec 1911 that they claim is a good base for a custom gun. It is $500, but I know nothing about the co. The absolute best 1911 deal on the planet, in my opinion, is the Colt rail gun. You get a ton for a great price, you can add a light or laser, the freaking thing is eye candy more than J Lo is, and you get the "Colt" billboard on the side. On the down side, it has the firing in safety, which to me isn't a down side since every 1911 I own has this system. Don't mean to be long winded, but it sounds like this may be your first 1911, and you either want to buy one that if you have to sell it and take a bath, it won't matter much; or, you get one that is a relatively good price that you can recover most of your investment if you decide the platform isn't for you.

    If it is your first 1911, look at;
    Ruger SR 1911
    Taurus PT 1911
    Colt Gold Cup Trophy
    Colt Match Trophy
    SA MC Operator
SA TRP (this pistol approaches the getting expensive line)
    SA RO

Obviously, I am a little bias, so try to ignore that a bit. Happy shooting!
    SA MC Operator
BCM and Glock...for a bigger pile of 'cold dead hands' brass.
