    Default Springfield Mil-Spec 1911

I was complaining about my Springfield Mil-Spec 1911 in another thread. The beavertail has sharp edges and really digs into my hand when shooting.

Is this something a gunsmith can fix up or what?

WW, you could likely do that yourself, 1911's are not too hard to tear down.

Use this link to find the gunsmithing page for 1911's. Good luck...

You could easily break the edges with some fine sandpaper and then a little touch-up with some cold blue. I started to do that with my own but ended up grinding the safety flush with the tangs and bobbing the hammer.

The grip safety is really quite simple to remove.

some sandpaper would do just fine as long as you can access the areas with it. Sure beats hammer bite though doesnt it?

I have a Mil Spec, and it does the same thing to me as well hoss. An extended beavertail is something you might look into, As I think that would solve your problems right there. Do not really need a gunsmith to do that one. Just make sure you know how to tear it down when you put it on.
