Anyone shoot IDPA at Double Action in Yeadon?
I've been shooting for a few years and have been wanting to try IDPA for a while now. Life has finally calmed down and I think I'm going to get off my arse and give it a try. I'd love to hook up with some PAFOA folks who could give this IDPA newb some tips.

Re: Anyone shoot IDPA at Double Action in Yeadon?
I don't live down that way, so I've never shot there. However, even if you don't find anyone here, don't let that stop you. IDPA competitors, in my experience, are a great group and if they know you're new and looking for tips and advice they'll be more than willing to help you out.
My general tips for people looking to get started:
1. Go to the IDPA website and download the rulebook. Read it to get a basic idea of things to expect. Pay particular attention to the sections on divisions and competitor equipment. If you can't figure out for sure what division you'd be in, or if your gear is legal, ask here. It's easier if you know before you go, and show up with equipment legal to use.
2. Email the match director ahead of time. Tell him/her that you're looking to get started with IDPA and ask if you need to do anything before match day. Some clubs run new competitor classes that they want first time competitors to attend. Others just ask you to show up a little early on match day. Find out the expected round count for the match and bring extra ammo. Always better to take some back home than to DNF because you ran out.
3. Remember these matches are 100% volunteer run. Things go smoothly if everyone helps out. You'll make friends fast if you volunteer to help with setup and/or tear down.
4. (from a score keeper's perspective) When filling out your score sheet, write (preferably print) NEATLY and make sure you at least have your name, division and classification filled in.
5. Try and ignore the timer. Don't try and win your first match. Focus on safety and following the course of fire as stated. Speed will come with experience. Don't be afraid to ask questions, and listen to suggestions and advice from others.
6. Lastly, remember it's a game, HAVE FUN.

Re: Anyone shoot IDPA at Double Action in Yeadon?
Thanks Warrior, I appreciate the info and advice.
I go to the range often but tend to be a slow-n-steady guy. I figured IDPA would help sharpen my shooting skills. I've never been to Double Action but it's not far from me and a forum search indicates that it's a great place for newbs to get into IDPA.
For anyone else who might be interested, a google search brought up this IDPA new shooter info packet which also looks to be helpful.
Thanks again

Ted Murphy runs a good IDPA match at Double Action. usually 4-6 stages and 60-80 rounds. Depending on attendance you can usually shoot the course more than once or with different firearms.
Just follow the new shooter advice and you'll be fine."...The gun at my side means that I cannot be forced, only persuaded...It doesn't limit the actions of those who would interact with me through reason, only the actions of those who would do so by force."

I typically do but I won't be able to this month.
This match in particular is a good way to get into IDPA.
