Best Handgun for "Emergency Bag"
I put together a pretty complete survival kit and want to round it off with the best overall handgun. Im going to buy one just for this kit so im open to brand and caliber. Also what does everyone think the best amount of ammo and mags to carry would be? I dont want the bag to get to weighed down.

Re: Best Handgun for "Emergency Bag"
You would want something that would not rust, require almost no maintenance and be of a local police or military caliber. No odd ball calibers.
Is it for hunting survival or 2 legged survival? Hunting, 22lr no doubt.Hoplophobia is funny

Depends on what you mean by survival. Also depends where you are.

The best one is the one that you're already familiar with. Get a duplicate if the firearm that you carry regularly and have practiced with.
Rules are written in the stone,
Break the rules and you get no bones,
all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.

There are way too many variables to possibly answer this question. What is your intent? BOB? GHB for the car trunk? Is this going in a boat, an airplane, etc? Where will you be travelling with it? Is it for the zombie apocalypse?

J-Frame .357. That way you can use .38 or .357 ammo. You want some ubiquitous - NOT, esoteric. A revolver fits the bill.

What about a 9mm revolver?
That would give you a popular caliber so you can likely pick up more ammo from the corpses of your apocalyptic attackers and would solve the problem of needing to carry extra mags - wouldn't it?I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

Re: Best Handgun for "Emergency Bag"
Can't really answer this question without knowing what sort of emergency you are planning for. Zombie weapon will be a little different than a "lost in the woods need to hunt food or signal" weapon. Also, duration of the emergency. If you are just using it to get home from work 5 miles away is a lot different than if you are trying to make it home from 3 states over.
Best, most versatile in my opinion might be a glock 17, for weight, adaptability, compatibility, etc. But you could also look at an AR pistol, as with an optic you can take deer easily at 100 yds +.(where legal to do so)
So yeah, if your emergency includes hunting, it is a lot different scenario than one needing to defend yourself and family.Sec. 21. The right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the State shall not be questioned.
Sec. 25. To guard against transgressions of the high powers which we have delegated, we declare that everything in this article is excepted out of the general powers of government and shall forever remain inviolate.
