Default Best Handgun for "Emergency Bag"

I put together a pretty complete survival kit and want to round it off with the best overall handgun. Im going to buy one just for this kit so im open to brand and caliber. Also what does everyone think the best amount of ammo and mags to carry would be? I dont want the bag to get to weighed down.

You would want something that would not rust, require almost no maintenance and be of a local police or military caliber. No odd ball calibers.

Is it for hunting survival or 2 legged survival? Hunting, 22lr no doubt.

Depends on what you mean by survival. Also depends where you are.

The best one is the one that you're already familiar with. Get a duplicate if the firearm that you carry regularly and have practiced with.

As much as I love the 20 , and I do. I kinda feel like whatever ammo I have on me is all im ever gonna have. If the SHTF I think 10mm is gonna be a little scarce, hell I have trouble finding it now.

There are way too many variables to possibly answer this question. What is your intent? BOB? GHB for the car trunk? Is this going in a boat, an airplane, etc? Where will you be travelling with it? Is it for the zombie apocalypse?

Thumbs up Re: Best Handgun for "Emergency Bag"

J-Frame .357. That way you can use .38 or .357 ammo. You want some ubiquitous - NOT, esoteric. A revolver fits the bill.

Im pretty versital with alot of guns. Ive bought, had, or have many many different types of handguns. Im leaning towards a glock 19 but im kinda a glock whore so im kinda impartial and want unbyassed options which may be better.

    What about a 9mm revolver?

That would give you a popular caliber so you can likely pick up more ammo from the corpses of your apocalyptic attackers and would solve the problem of needing to carry extra mags - wouldn't it?

Can't really answer this question without knowing what sort of emergency you are planning for. Zombie weapon will be a little different than a "lost in the woods need to hunt food or signal" weapon. Also, duration of the emergency. If you are just using it to get home from work 5 miles away is a lot different than if you are trying to make it home from 3 states over.

Best, most versatile in my opinion might be a glock 17, for weight, adaptability, compatibility, etc. But you could also look at an AR pistol, as with an optic you can take deer easily at 100 yds +.(where legal to do so)

So yeah, if your emergency includes hunting, it is a lot different scenario than one needing to defend yourself and family.
