Traveling to NJ
I know NJ doesn't recognize PA LTCF but someone told me that it's ok as long as you don't have hollow point ammo.
This makes no sense to me but he said an LEO told him his LTCF was good in Jersey with this restriction. I'm concerned about him crossing the bridge thinking all is well based on hearsay info. Any thoughts or experience with this?

Re: Traveling to NJ
Nothing could possibly be further from the truth my friend. Jersey is damn near a communist state when it comes to guns and exotic animals.

Re: Traveling to NJ
Do not take your handgun to NJ. Unless you are going to/from hunting, a range, a gunsmith, or between NJ abode and NJ business - possession of a handgun off your NJ owned lands is illegal in NJ without a NJ permit.
PA's LTCF is not good anywhere in NJ.Last edited by knight0334; August 10th, 2011 at 09:44 AM.

Re: Traveling to NJ
On a related note, I have a friend who rides his bike across the Ben Franklin Bridge and back, while carrying. I warned him it might not be the best idea. At what point are you "in' NJ? Is he ok if he turns around before coming off the bridge on the other side, or half way, or what?

Re: Traveling to NJ
Why would someone even do that? And how the heck do you turn around? If I remember the BF correctly it has a concrete divider the entire way.
To the OP .... just don't do it. If you have to go into Jersey see if you have a friend or family that you can store the gun with before crossing over. BTW, they should have an LTCF if they are a friend or a distant relative). If you have no such person the only other option would be to find a sympathetic FFL you could drop it off at.
I always thought about starting a business at the NJ border crossing points, something like a gun vault where people could do this. Unfortunately I doubt it would generate enough income to survive.

Re: Traveling to NJ
When I lived in the socialist repugnic of New Jersey 1987-1991, I used to carry my Steyr GB in my gun case and my ammo, targets, etc., in my range bag when walking from my apartment to the range at Ray's Sport Shop in North Plainfield....

Re: Traveling to NJ
For the love of god NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. !!!!!!!!!!! DO NOT EVER go into The Peoples Socialist Republic of nj thinking your out of state carry license is good !!! That is a sure fire, no excuses, one way trip to the gray bar hotel, confiscation and likely destruction of the weapon and a CERTAIN PRISON SENTENCE AND LIFETIME BAN on firearms ownership !!!
Repeat after me
NEW JERSEY DOES NOT RECOGNIZE ANY OTHER STATES CARRY LICENSE PERIOD !!!!
This is the same state whose former AG directed local and State cops to ARREST any
Out of state, or retired LEO found carrying in NJ. Even though they had the full protection of the Federal level LEOSA statute !
FYI. Asking a cop about firearms laws, especially with regard to NJ is like asking a fisherman about the intracacies of neurosurgerySi vis pacem, para bellum
