Default How long did your NICS check take?

Ordered a rifle from the CMP and they don't release after 3 days. Its been 3 weeks today and I'm still on NICS delay. In the past, I've always passed PICS with flying colors and check my own criminal history, I'm clean as always. Also, did a VAF with prints. I did add my SSN but the CMP neglected to add my SSN to my first NICS check. They reran it so I have two going on now. Aggravating.

For those who have had a NICS check, what is the longest you've waited?

Way back when the NICS law was brand spanking new I went to an out of
    town gunshow.

I tried to purchase a rifle and was delayed - the show ended and I went home.

I never followed up on it.

A few weeks later I did sucessfully get through the check at a local dealer ,
and I have never had a problem since.

    Go figure

Don't I know it. I ordered this in the middle of June and was delayed mid July. I've heard it can get worse.

when i bought my m1 garand from the cmp they were only 250.00$, so that tells you how long ago that was. i waited almost 6 months to receive the rifle. worth every minute because i ended up with a 95% plus springfield. almost didn,t want to shoot it but i had to do it.

I thought the I in NICS was instant, guess instant means something different when the government gets involved.

It is far from instant. It can take as long, sometimes longer, than PICS even though PICS uses NICS for checks.

Also, a denial can take months to get a reversal on. The NICS site advertizes 60-90+ day review for challenges. Where as PICS is usually reversed in less than 2 weeks.

I don't know what dimension you're from, but I doubt anyone has ever gotten a reversal letter in two weeks. It takes almost two weeks for them to even get your challenge letter. It takes another two weeks from when they file your reversal or denial letter in their outgoing mail to when it arrives at your door. The investigation time can vary from a few days to several weeks. I had to challenge a denial once, and it took over two months from when I mailed out my challenge letter to when I got my reversal letter, and that was for something simple that didn't require a lawyer. They could bring down the response time to two weeks if they would just get a fax machine, or dare I say, start using email. Do they use fax machines in your dimension?
I'll vote for Romney when he promises not to run in 2016.
