    Default SHTF Food Storage

Does anyone know where I can find 25lbs or larger bags of beans near the levittown area. I've been to BJs and they have nothing larger than 2lbs. Is there a Mexican food store around that may carry them? I've checked a few other places such as they health food stores but no luck.

You should be able to get 10# bags of kidney beans and rice at WM.

    FYI,
IIRC, beans and rice in bags have a limited shelf life of about 2-3 years. If you are looking for long term (survival) food storage look at Wise (about $2.20 per meal with a 25 year shelf life). Don't forget you will also need 1 gal of water per person per day. You will also need a way to boil and/or purify the water.

Don't buy direct, you can get it cheaper else where.

You can do that, but once you vacuum pack them, you should also freeze them for three days. That will kill anything else that might be alive inside your package.

This works well for long term storage of pasta as well.

Right now I have 50lbs of rice and I am looking for the beans. Once I get them I will freeze it all, then put them in 5 lbs food grade buckets with mylar bars (sealed w 02 absorbers in them). I think there is a Mexican grocery store on Rt 13 I may try, or the Bristol farmers market.

I don’t know about that. Many beans and white rice can be stored in air tight bottles/jars for 10 years. They can be canned on a rotational basis to be used as “regular canned” beans to make them easier to consume and rotate.

Without knowing how long the OP is prepping for it’s hard to say what’s right . If you or anyone else can afford freeze dried or pre-prepared food I say go for it.
But IMO the easiest course is to just buy what you normally eat or change your menu to include prepped items so they can get rotated every few years.
