Uh oh...
Before the theme to "JAWS" cues, maybe a search of the optics posts, with the key words "budget" and "optic" might be in order.
Happy hunting!

That scope from walmart should have a warranty on it. If its not holding zero take it back and exchange it. I've heard they are decent for the money and should hold up.

Check your scope mounts/rings to make sure they are tight. If your not fiddling around with the adjustments, even less expensive scopes should hold at zero.
A .223 is not high enough recoil to knock most scopes off their zero or damage the reticle mounts inside the scope.Derrion Albert was my Hero.

Natchez had some Nikon refurbs that are an excellent deal in your price range.
What is your current scope doing and what ammo are you shooting?

Re: ar15 optics need some advice please
Wow.....some of those Nikons are really nice, and a lot cheaper than retail.
Do they still have a full warranty?
If the OP is looking for red dots, Vertex Strikefires have a pretty good rep and are in his price range. The Walther (Umarex) red dots work fine too as long as they're not abused. I have a Walther PS-55 that holds it's zero fine, and has been on several guns over the last few years. There are honestly a ton of cheap-o red dots on the market from companies like Tasco, Bushnell, and Burris that work just fine.
Don't buy anything that says NCStar on it.Last edited by Valorius; July 26th, 2011 at 03:40 PM.

Re: ar15 optics need some advice please
I had an $80 red dot on my AR for a while, and it did me pretty well. Man sized targets at 300 yards were no problem, though that was about the extent of the range for me. I *could* get out to the 400 yard steel, but it was tough.
