Default Has anyone seen this Glock malfunction?

I was running a shooter in a USPSA match yesterday and the gun wouldn't fire. I stopped the shooter and found that the slide was sitting too far forward. I looked closer and found that the takedown lever had broken and fallen out. She was a stock Gen 3 G23.

The next shooter had his factory front night sight fall out of his G17 in the middle of the stage. I was starting to wonder........

Anyone ever see this type of breakage?

I've had stove pipes in my G17 but that was my fault(limp wristing I think). I also had a G26 mag fail, it jammed up from dirt getting inside(again i'd say my fault).

I've never seen any type of failures that you've seen.

I loosened the factory rear on my G22C, presumably from smacking in things while on my hip, but the front one is still solid.....

I have often wondered if the takedown lever wasn't too small, but until now, I haven't really heard of one breaking.....I know I would like to get one that's got just slightly longer teeth on it.....

I seen something similar with an G34, but the whole slide flew off the gun. I didn't get to check out the gun to see exactly what happened.

I'm surprised it didn't fly off. I saw a slide go flying off in an Armorers Class due to the slide lock not being in place.
It's a weird failure but at least it's a cheap one to fix.
Hopefully there was a pistol available for the shooter to finish the match.

Hard to believe a broken slide lock - it's a pretty robust part. I have heard of slide lock springs breaking, allowing the lock to fall out of the frame.

As far as the front sight goes, could be it wasn't installed with Loctite and the screw backed out.

    Edit:
    Actually, re-reading your original statement:

"I looked closer and found that the takedown lever had broken and fallen out."

It >does< sound more like the slide lock spring broke.

I've never seen the lever itself break, but have witnessed the spring under the lever snap and the slide go downrange. Saw it a handfull of times on the issue Glock 23's at my previous employer. Glock did change the spring to a more robust part many years ago, but there are early Gen3 guns out there with the old style springs still.
As for the front sight? If it was the older style crimped on night sights that Glock used for awhile, they just work loose and fly away...that's one of the main reasons Glock went to the deeper threaded screw-thru design on their current production factory night sights.

my slide lock spring broke on my G30 and pretty much the same thing happened. it wouldn't fire because it didn't return to battery, when i tried to manually run the slide it came off

that was my first post on Glock Talk (trying to troubleshoot it), i got called troll and every other name in the book
