Bolt hits scope!
Houston...we have a problem!
I got an entry level Tasco Scope and some 40mm weaver mount rings for the new Savage Edge .270 and low and behold, the bolt lever hits the scope during manipulation. It is ok when opening the bolt but hits the lens housing when sliding back. I like the compact look, but I'm afraid I'll have to get some see through mounts to raise the scope up some?
Any thoughts?

Re: Bolt hits scope!
My grandfather bought a Springfield 1903 many decades ago for $12. He sporterized it and mounted a modern (at the time) scope. Sure enough, the bolt handle would hit the scope, making it impossible to work the action. He took it to a gunsmith who reworked the bolt handle to make enough clearance, and it turned out pretty good. If you want, I can snap some photos for you. Just let me know.

Re: Bolt hits scope!
I've been google'ing and found that I got medium weaver mounts...maybe I need to look for a set of 49049 extra high mounts?? I didn't realize that there were different heights available.

Re: Bolt hits scope!
Can you find the height difference between the mediums you have and Weaver High and Extra High? If you can, add something that is that thickness to your existing mounts, lay the scope in and see if it clears.
Check the height on Burris Zee Rings, (I like the Signatures) they'll fit your weaver bases also.
I would do whatever it took to stay away from see thru mounts.

Re: Bolt hits scope!
Are the see thru mounts available for this gun? They add some height with the advantage of using the iron sights as well.

Re: Bolt hits scope!
There are see through's available, but the rifle doesn't have iron sights! I only need maybe 3/16" for the lever to clear the scope. It opens all the way without hitting but it hits sliding back.

There are some high rise mounts that might help.

Re: Bolt hits scope!
Scope rings and bases do come in different hights, You may also want to check out the leopold style 1 or 2 piece bases in stead of weaver style. I use medium 2 piece so my leopold vari x 2 scope bell clears the barrel. Also you may be trying to mount the scope to far front on your reciever. See through mounts never worked good for me personally as to use them I have to lift my head off the butt stock. Lots of guys in my area do use them though.

Re: Bolt hits scope!
Ok, we got a set of high rings instead of medium. Now the bolt lever clears the scope by a hair but doesn't touch. I should go with extra high but this will have to do for now!
