As said either of the 3 are excellent choices. I wouldnt rule out BCM or Spikes though.

"blasphoney"? I couldn't even find that one on urbandictionary.com.

I love BCM, here is why; They are > mil-spec rifles and they are affordable. When I shoot mine to where I can barely hold it, I don't mind. Also, I have that piece of mind knowing that it will fire, every time. My Noveske/Vltor will always shoot however, I care a little more about therefor it gives me a reluctant feeling about abusing it.

    Fixed it for ya'.

Bottom line, if you want the rifle for home/self defense, don't skimp. Get a mil-spec or better rifle from a top tier company, like BCM, DD, Colt; to name a few. That way you know it'll go bang when it has to.

My S&W M&P15X is all Mil-Spec and is ready to shoot 5.56... And it was less than $1000 at Cabelas!

I've never had any problem with it...

Edit: The M&P15X is 98% Mil-Spec... It has a 1/9 twist rate and a 4140 Steel Barrel instead of the "Mil-Spec" 1/7 twist rate and a 4150 Steel Barrel

Same for my milspec Bushmaster, except it was $800 (including a case and a couple hundred rounds of ammo).

I added all kinds of custom features, match trigger, night sights, and a top end laser/light combo, and it still cost less than one of those stripped $1600 rifles.

    Not mil-spec either.

You are aware that Bushmaster makes M-16s for the US military, right?

The only real difference between a commerical Bushmaster and a milspec gun (which some bushmasters are) is the buffer tube. It is a non issue, and certainly does not justify a 100% increase in price. If anything, the commercial tube is stronger, it has thicker walls.

    It's milspec.
What twist rate is it? What barrel steel is it? What carrier is in it? What weight buffer is in it? What reciever extension is in it?

Hell, is the gas key even properly staked? Just last weekend I saw a BM purchased by an agency that needed to have the staking re-done because Bushmaster has no fucking clue how to do it.

It could be fine and never have an issue, but it is not mil-spec.
