    Default Opinions, Please

I'm going to send the below in an e-mail to the Philly Sheriff. What do you think the reply will be? I'll post back if I get a response.

    Sheriff Green,

City of Philadelphia employees who lawfully possess a Pennsylvania License to Carry Firearms (LTCF) are not permitted to carry firearms
while on duty or in City buildings.

In the absence of secure facilities to secure weapons at City Hall, the Municipal Services Building, and 1515 Arch Street, would it be permissible
for City employees to check their weapons at the Criminal Justice Center during normal business hours?

This would allow employees with a LTCF to exercise their rights and provide for their protection while commuting to and from work or going about their
personal business and/or pleasure after work, while at the same time not violating City policy regarding employees carrying firearms.

    I await your reply.

    Thank you.

Any reason, you don't strike up the request to rescind the "City policy regarding employees carrying firearms?"

Would it hurt to request that, and provide the ability "to check their weapons at the Criminal Justice Center during normal business hours" as an alternative?

    Precisely my point.

In fact, this is exactly how politics work. Ask for more than you want, and then grudgingly "compromise" to your original intended goal. At the end of the day, both parties go home happy. You are happy, because you got everything you wanted, and they are happy, because they think they stood their ground but didn't lose a supporter. If you need some assistance, call a congressman, they seem to be great at this.

After 25+ years of working for the city, I'm not sure I'd want to be around some of the people I work with if they were armed!

Let's see how this goes first. I inquired because a young lady that works for me will be attending night classes and wanted to be able to carry, but since we aren't permitted to carry to work, I proposed this avenue.

Can the city even prohibit city employees from carrying?
    (a) General rule.--No county, municipality or township may in any manner regulate the lawful ownership, possession, transfer or transportation of firearms, ammunition or ammunition components when carried or transported for purposes not prohibited by the laws of this Commonwealth.

No, but they can fire you if you do.
