New Shotgun Barrel Break-in Period?

Hello All,

I purchased a new 24" smooth bore barrel for my Mossberg 500 12ga.

I am curious if I need to do anything special to break it in, or if it is good out of the box?

I may or may not have read some crazy rituail of shooting a few rounds, clean barrel with hoppes, shoot a few more, clean barrel, etc- though this might have been for a rifle of some kind.

Thanks in advance! It should get to me in a week or so, and I'm looking forward to busting some clays!

Patch out any shipping grease, make sure the choke tube has lube on the threads, the choke tube is snugged up, then shoot it.

I agree with the above.

It doesn't have rifling that may have machining burs on them. Just clean it good, lube the choke threads, and make sure the choke is snug.
