On a side note. If you want a nice slotted flash hider for the PSL. There is a member selling them on AK files by the name of Brick. Its not quite the hooded SVD assembly. But it looks very much at home on a PSL for $45.

So if you did the DSM lab HG adapter and that FH. And perhaps one of the stock options from Rhineland. You could get pretty close. And actually receive the goods in a timely manner.

I don't understand the need to switch the gas system. My PSL works great as is.

The gas system, bumps the carriage, then stops and recoils.
The bolt, carrier keep going and recoil.
So instead of a large mass recoil , you soften it up.
Adjustable too. it and it supossded to use less, most quote this gives the gas consistancy.

This is the what makes a SVD. (besides milled reciever)

The Gas system, will also let you run heavy ball without slamming the back of the reciever.

So it's less reciprocating mass above center. Ok. But explain how it becomes self regulating? Gas port diameter still dictates the amount of force applied to the piston, regardless of it floating or fixed. Unless it's vented in some way during the stroke to only apply the same level of force to the piston no matter what?

An easy way to shoot heavy ball in a PSL is to tap the gas port and thread in a restrictor. Much like a nitrous jet. You can adjust orifice size to gate down gas pressure acting on the piston. This is an invisible mod that costs the price of a tap, some R&D, and $.25 set screws drilled to size.

In the event of a blow out. The gun returns to normal operation. Try it. It works like a charm.

Rifle Dynamics has had my AK since August 2011, yup 2011. I sent it in for an upgrade and they apparently had some problems with the shop manager that have supposedly been fixed, but you may want to call and see what the turn around time is now, I was quoted 6-8 months and it is going on 19 months now. I sent an email 3 days ago and finally got a response, I should have my rifle back in a "few weeks" we shall see.
