Numrich Gun Parts has the parts for the gun:

However, I would have a gunsmith do the repair, unless you are very good mechanically and have experience.

About the Jennings 22, it is imperative to keep the gun clean so that it is reliable.

I would be extremely hesitant to pass on a firearm with known safety issues like a jennings/bryco/davis to anyone let alone a family member. Even if you manage to get the safey working - the effectivenees of the safety will always be suspect and dangerous with such a low quality firearm. Do yourself a favor and get your stepson a 22 from a reputable manufacturer - you cant go wrong with Ruger or Browning.

I have a Jennings .25. I would never use it for personal protection or holster it with a round in the chamber and the pin back.

Nothing wrong with using the gun for plinking if you are following the Safety Rules. If you give it to your Step Son just make sure he understands the quality of the gun and the Safety Rules. I would shoot mine more often if .25acp was not so damn expensive.

I like cheap guns for plinking. I like them because they are fun and I like them even more because anti-gunners seem to dislike them. So buying cheap guns is kicking dirt in the face of anti-gunners.
