    Smile "Awkward" OC Encounter...

Was in Uniontown (Fayette county) last night around 2230 hours and stopped in the Get-Go to get a soda before the hour long drive back to Pittsburgh.

I walk over to the fountain soda counter get my drink and walk over to the counter.

A middle aged woman said :
    (W= woman & M= me)

W- You're making me awful nervous with your gun out like that!

M- There's no reason to be nervous, what Im doing is legal.

W- You mean to tell me its legal to walk around with a gun holstered on your hip like that?

M- Yes (told her the standard PA OC info)

W- Huh, I didnt know that. I still feel a bit awkward about it

M- Well, dont worry Im not wearing a mask I jokingly said.

W- (she laughed a little) and said, well I guess that's true. Although robbers nowadays dont even care about wearing a mask.

M- Thast true. But there's no need to feel threatened when people are legally, OC'ing. Think about this, if someone were to come in here with the intent of harming you, you would be glad that I was in here to stop the danger , right?

W- Well, I never thought about it like that. I guess you're right. (gives me my change) Have a nice night.

So, in all, I think it went well and she was left with an alternative view of people legally OC'ing.

    Thanks.
OC isnt for everybody, but I OC 95% of the time.
Its just more comfortable for me and if you do have to use your weapon, its far more easily accessible when drawing IMO.

OP good contact! The next time you pass by maybe you could pass her an OC flyer. The flyers IMO seem to help explain a little more than can be passed in a short conversation. Also they may pass it on to the husband, son daughter ect. in turn spreading the word!

    When your title said awkward....

I thought maybe someone else showed up carrying the same model gun in the same style holster.

    Wrong answer.

    Correct answer:

"Would you be similarly nervous if a cop walked in here with his gun in plain view?"

See, you never ascertained why your gun made her nervous. Case in point: you addressed the legality of it, which did nothing to assuage her feelings of uneasiness.

Next time, figure out why a gun makes her nervous, then address the silliness of THAT viewpoint first.

Again, legality has nothing to do with her pre-conceived notions about guns.
