    Default Marlin XL7 stock

I have a XL7 in .30-06 but the stock is too long for me to use in the winter, request advise on how to shorten it or have it done around Lock Haven. Love the factory recoil pad and would like to keep it or have a similar replacement.

See if they have a "youth stock" available.

If it is wood, you can have the LOP shortened(involves cutting the butt off square and true). Then the recoil refit by grinding(best done with a recoil pad jig), depending on the type and material of the recoil pad.

If you're not familiar with such type wood work or pad grinding - leave it to a pro because you can F-up your stock quite easily.

If it is synthetic - you might be screwed. Most synthetic stocks I've seen were hollow. If you cut off the butt you'll have nothing to screw the pad back to.
