Rules of engagement for transporting

Hello all and thanks again for all your informative responses. I've been going to SPAG
every Saturday now and when I go by myself I take the bus. I shoot my Glock 26 there. I went late one day and while waiting for the dam bus for about 40 min these 2 guys, hoods, approached me and asked for a light. It was dark outside already. They started asking me stupid questions like "you waitin for the bus?" My first thought was, ok, these guys are trynna move on me. I managed to steer them away. I don't have a license to carry yet, I was just transporting. I was wondering, if they did try to rob me and had a knife or something, would I be able to engage them if I manged to lock and load? I do keep everything in separate cases, gun/ammo. I know the first answer to that question would be to not put yourself in that situation until you get your license but, I'm saying if it were any situation where my life was at risk? Personally, I would think of this about the same as breaking or bending any law for the greater good... IE: Speeding to get some one to the Hospital, pushing a red light to let a firetruck/EMT truck by... not only are you protecting your self, but protecting the society from having one more gun out there in the hands of the BG.

I would think if the GB try to rob you, you have to defend yuor self by what ever means possible. Wouldnt look very bad to have a cracked scull and reporting a stolen case with a gun missing...
Mind you there must be laws about how much of a threat you feel your in in this instance like in any other. Best left to a LEO or Lawyer to answer.

I would have to think that you would have done a service, but at the same time, I could also see a fine, or some sort of charge come back against you. Hey, I could be wrong, but I have seen dumber things as most people here have also.

if your in a situation that you can get away to get a gun out of a bag, then ammo out of a seperate container inside that bag, load the mag, get it in the gun, and rack the slide you'd better have a damn good excuse why you didnt keep running because you had a helluva head start.. it's not feasble in any way where you would have been transporting legally

With the way Filthadelphia is with gun laws, you would be doing responsible gun owners (as a whole) a disfavor. Although morally I don't think anyone would argue whether or not you did the RIGHT thing, I'm sure that you would get some kind of charge. I would MUCH rather be charged with something if I were protecting my life, over being severely beaten and/or killed. But remember, avoiding the situation is the first step. Get away from them if at all possible is the first rule.

Get your carrying permit so that you don't have to worry about it.

Actually everyone, wouldnt he be ok, because in PA, as long as you are able to (no criminal activity) on your record, open carry is legal while on foot in PA without a license, so realistically he would be fine, because he didnt get on the bus yet where he wouldbt be allowed to carry, hewas still standing there, so he would be fine should a situation have arose.

They, Philly, decreed that any person who wants to carry, CC or OC must apply for and receive their LTCF. So, actually in his situation he could not OC, he must follow the rules for transporting a firearmmto a shooting range.

Yes, you are right with that, I didnt realize the Philly thing, so you are right, he does need his LTCF to be able to even open carry.

I am new to this forum, so let me first say hello! I am glad to hear that you got out of the situation unharmed and without incident. While I completely agree with the others about the justification of firing if the consequences warranted action, you WOULD have taken on charges. More importantly, as mentioned earlier, was the fact that you had the gun safely tucked away, making it difficult if not impossible to deploy. One thing we try to teach our students when it comes to weapons is 1) deployment of your weapon is vital to its use, and 2) when you can avoid a situation, then do so. When we teach disarms, we also teach escapes, just to avoid the legal tangles such a situation might incur. A friend of mine is currently being sued by the guy who attacked him! Such is the American legal system at times!
