Default Gun sale question...Yes I looked at the sticky.

I'm selling a handgun. The buyer who contacted me is a PA resident and has an FFL. I searched for this scenario in the sticky and didn't see an exact answer to this situation. He said he just needs to log the gun into his "bound book" and thats it. Is this correct? I'm assuming since he has an ffl a pics check isn't necessary? Sorry for the total noob question, I've just never sold a gun directly to an ffl.

    Thanks.

As long as the buyer has a 01 FFL, then all you have to do is to ship it to him. As an FFL, he does not have to do anything else other than enter it into his records (bound book). If you are not sure about him, you can ask him for the first 3 and last 5 numbers of his license and then go to the BATFE web site and use the FFL eZ Check to verify or authenticate what he is telling you.

Now, one other thing, if the FFL that the person has is an 03 FFL and the gun is not a curio/relic gun, you cannot just send it to him. An 03 FFL holder must go through the same steps as a non FFL holder when buying a modern handgun.

i would ask the buyer to send you a copy of his ffl to keep for your records before shipping the pistol. i would not ship the pistol without a copy of the ffl and once in your possession you can check to see if it's valid or not by going to the ATF webpage and running the license numbers through EZ Check

You always need to plan for the worst. That handgun is traceable to you, so what will you be able to show the cops 2 years from now when it shows up at a crime scene? You need more than a vague recollection of shipping it to some guy. You would like a copy of his business check, a copy of his FFL (some licensees won't do this) a printout of his FFL info (ATF has a website that allows you to verify this, if you have his license #), and a detailed receipt for the shipment to his business premises.

I would also ask the FFL to give you the log number from his bound book. That way if someone wants to check it out at a later date they can go to the right page in his bound book pronto.
