    Question 1911 ISSUE

A few months ago i bought my first 1911, which is a Springfield armory Mil-spec. I'm having some issues with it, i haven't fired it yet but i recently installed an extended mag release and the issue is on the last round it won't lock back. But it'll lock back with the two factory mags that came with it and my two chip mc cormick mags, but with the other mags it won't lock back at all, there all new magazines. I even took out my shock buffer and it did the same thing, what should i do? should i go to the gun smith or just put the factory part back in? someone help me out.

Did all of your magazines work correctly with the factory magazine release?

If yes, then by all means put the factory part back in. If no the problem is the magazines.

Even more confusing to me is the statement that the OP hasn't yet fired the gun, yet he reports that the slide is not locking back after the last round (???)... Unless he means he is hand-cycling live rounds or snap caps (not an accurate measure of a gun's true function, IMO)?

Whatever the case, try actually firing the gun for starters.

If you experience issues, swap back the factory part (whichever part that actually is - mag catch or slide stop). Then repeat firing and try to duplicate the issue.

And get rid of the shock-buff for good while you're in there...

    Regards,

    Bones
