    Default Police Encounter

Have you ever had someone say something to you that engendered a knee-jerk response from yourself? I had one of those moments today.

I was driving to a few gunshops today to hang flyers on bulletin boards. I was open carrying as I do almost exclusively. As I walk into one of the shops, I see a cop standing next to the counter. He was wearing sunglasses indoors, and appeared to be mid-twenties. I moved to stand a little ways back from the counter, as the owner was busy with a customer. When he was done with the customer I walked forward to talk to him about hanging some flyers. When I stepped up to the counter, I saw the cop's head lower up my beltline. The conversation went as follows:
Me: So you wouldn't mind if I put a few papers up and left my card on the counter?
Owner: No no go right ahead, I will give you a call myself after I get a few people rounded up.
Me: Thanks, I appreciate it. I'll try to send some people down your way.
    Owner: Ok, sounds good.

As I turned to leave, the cop kind of put his hand up to speak to me.
Cop: What's the deal with that? You need to conceal that.
Me: No, sir I don't. Open carry is legal in the Commonwealth. You should have received training a little while back about the legality of it.
Cop: I got the training. I just think it's retarded. What are you certified through to instruct?
Me: The NRA and Utah Bureau of Criminal Identification, why?
Cop: The BCI, wow! So you get a little certification and now you carry your gun like some make-believe cop. You seriously don't think you're a Law Enforcement Officer, do you?
Me: No, Sir, I do not. My dick isn't small enough. I'm just a CFP instructor.
Cop: (taking his glasses off now like Horatio Caine or something) You're real fuckin funny. I have a real job, real police work to do. Feel free to continue the comedy hour.

He then left, with the owner and several customers chuckling as he walked out.

Owner: I'm going to put your flyer on the front door. That guy comes in here three times a week and bothers my customers.
Me: I wouldn't allow him in.
Owner: Yeah, I've been kicking it around.

We said our goodbyes and I hit the road. I hadn't planned on saying anything like that to him. It was like my tongue was suddenly possessed by the Ghost of Smartass Present. I was shocked I'd said it, but I was and still am glad I did.

    Cop is a jerk.

Everybody has contempt for the cop.

Everybody celebrates the contempt for the cop and laughs him off.

Sounds pretty awful. Thanks for the bummer

At least you drove the asshole off, I guess. Other than that, sounds horrible.

Hopefully he didn't get your license plate number. If you get pulled over in the next few days I wouldn't be surprised...

This is where my interaction with the asshole would have ended, had he been dumb enough to try to engage me.

Or, if he continued to deride me, I'd have uttered: "If I wanted to hear from an asshole, I'd have farted."

Once again, we see the undeniable trend:

OC'er being hassled by asshole cop is a young guy.
