    Default AR-15 question

Hello, just a question or 2. I'm looking at getting an ar, and I don't know a whole lot about them, been a pistol guy all life.

I can get a Colt with the light weight barrel, really don't know any other specifics, but it is .223. I figured its a good deal at $699.

Let me know yes or no, Thanx, Dan

    Thumbs up Re: AR-15 question

A REAL Colt, with what sounds like a pencil barrel, @ $699 is a steal! Where IS this Colt - is it new or used?

Colts come from the factory RIGHT (proper gas key staking, M4 feed ramps, MPI-tested, et.al.) - unless it's been abused, you should be GTG at that price!

Any Colt in .223 at that price is a STEAL. It seems pretty damn difficult to get a Colt for under $1000 these days.

I would double check and see if it is truely 223 or if its 5.56.

Colt has turned out AR's with 223 chambers! They are a PITA because it limits your ammo supply! It sucks having an AR that won't fire because a blown primer is stuck between the BCG and upper rec.

Just look on the side of the rifle and see if it is stamped 223/5.56 or just 223.

My bet is it's just 223 and thats why it's got a $699. price tag on it.

    Very true!

Also, dont just check the caliber on the lower receiver, check what the barrel markings say as well.

Very sorry for forgetting to post the location of these prices, (probably trying to make sure they are still there when I get there!!!!)
Surplus City on Bustleton Pike, I'm sure you all know the place!!

I'll have to look again when I go, not sure if they are stractly .223 or not. They are used, I believe they are from some police department nearby. They seem to be in pretty good shape from what I can tell. I just need to justify spending the dough when I'm not even sure what I'm going to do with it, or where to shoot it!! Just always wanted one!!! imagine that. As I said, I've always just been a pistol guy so I need to see what I'm missing!!!

Once you get your Lower Receiver. The sky is not the limit.
There is a lot you can do. You can rebuild the Upper Receiver or just change it out, You can always change out the stock, and You can always upgrade the Upper to what ever you or someone else has dreamed up!
In the mean time, You have a functioning AR.

At $699.00, Your ready to go. Not a bad price to pay to get into the AR plat-form. & Its a Colt!

    Dan
You can shoot it indoors at Classic Pistol in Southampton...they have a few long gun lanes or try Wicens.

You can also try Holmesburg Fish & Game...Ive never been there though...
