Default 1911 Accidental Discharge caught on video

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zYvAxLX6OzE

Watch the video through to the end to hear the explanation of how it happened. He says it was his fault, but I personally think its a flaw in the design of the holster.

I think its a flaw in the way he unholstered. He was using a different holster, then he switched guns and holster, but was used to the other one.

It looks to me that the holster is to complicated to release the firearm and also is a bad design for the 1911 platform. I've never used a holster with a retention device and after seeing this I don't plan to.

No matter what the cause, he is one lucky fellow. He could have lost a knee or hit an artery.

I have a SERPA of my 1911. Scary.

I think it's from switching from one holster to another. Not the fault of the holster itself.

It shows importance of using one, very well practiced mode of carry. His muscle memory of one system worked against him in another.

I use my SERPA/1911 combo strictly for OC at the range. I hardly ever carry my 1911 as a defensive pistol. Actually, only carried it once in public. Too big and too heavy. And, it goes back to practicing with a Glock. My muscle memory doesn't include clicking off a safety. And, Glock's trigger's aren't nearly as sensitive (including their kinda somewhat, useless trigger safety).

Anyway, it takes balls to post that on youtube. It's always a good reminder.

I almost had an ND once. I decided to check the chamber just once more before pulling the trigger when working on my Kel-Tec. Good thing I did.

Love the NRA plug at the end of it!

But really, when in training, I was specifically taught to press the renention button with the pad of my finger, never with the tip of the finger. Thats why. If you disengage the SERPA lock with the tip of the finger, it will slip right into the trigger guard as soon as the gun comes out of the holster. If the finger is straight and the SERPA lock is disengaged with the pad of the forefinger, it naturally indexes along the side of the frame, right on top of the slide stop pin, where it should be. I can see how switching from a thumbdrive could make you curl that forefinger and swipe the safety off. There is a visceral reminder. Jeez that guy is lucky.

It's the routine that gets us! We get to a point where we don't have to think
about what we're doing and just do it.Any deviation in that routine, and memory takes over whitch could be a bad thing ,like in the video.

I think I'll stop and think more !

These are NOT accidental discharges, they are negligent discharges.

Nothing to do with the hoslter or safety, you can clearly see and he admits to pulling the trigger. Keep your finger off the trigger until on target

Nothing failed mechanically. Hoslter released as designed and firearm went off when trigger squeezed

    The guy is an idiot
