Gettysburg CC
I am going to Gettysburg for vacation this year..I was looking for clairification on if I can carry in and around there as areas of it are National park/battlefield or what ever?? Did that change a year or so back where you could CC in National Forests/parks and stuff like that cover places like this?? Last time I went 2 years ago before the law changed I just left my Pistol home i was worried about accidentally carrying in the wrong(illegal) place..Thanks in advance for any answers..I think im good to go bringing it now but wanted to ask people that may know better than me.
I dont have a LTCF anymore (but should renew it) but am covered under LEOSA if that matters at all.

From:
http://www.nps.gov/gett/parkmgmt/lawsandpolicies.htm
"Firearms in National Parks: The law governing possession of firearms inside a national park changed on February 22, 2010. Visitors may possess firearms within a national park unit provided they comply with federal, state, and local laws. The role of the responsible gun owner is to know and obey the federal, state, and local laws appropriate to the park they are visiting. Please remember that federal law prohibits firearms in certain park facilities and buildings. These places are marked with signs at public entrances. For more information, please visit:

Re: Gettysburg CC
Inside buildings where federal employees routinely work (e.g., visitors center) are off limits. Elsewhere it's just like the rest of the Commonwealth. The same is true of federal historical sites like Valley Forge, Independence Hall, Liberty Bell, . . .

Re: Gettysburg CC
this is what I figured and how I also interpreted the "new" law..last time I was there it was 2009 and hadnt been enacted and we spent a lot of time on the BF and monuments and the museum so it was a waste to CC or even bring it this year I will bring it!

Re: Gettysburg CC
OP - I just wanted to make sure - there are state requirements that have to be met to qualify to be covered by LEOSA. I just wanted to make sure that you knew that and did not assume that since you are a retired LEO that you are automatically covered by the LEOSA statute. Enjoy your trip.

Since it seems your question has been answered, I'll take this opportunity to invite you to check out the Adams County Sport Handgunners Assocation while you are in town. Check the schedule http://www.acsha.com/schedule.html to see if we are having any events while you are here. We have a monthly Action Shoot, as well as some other shooting events. We are more geared to self defense/ Law Enforcement than hunting deer.
Also, Uncle Moe's Soul Food is excellent if you like Southern Catfish and BBQ.Adams County Sport Handgunners Association - President

Re: Gettysburg CC
Here's the law that allows carry in National Parks under certain conditions (note: it does not repeal the DOI proscription but renders it impotent under specific circumstances):
16 USC § 1a–7b. Protecting Americans from violent crime
(b) Protecting the right of individuals to bear arms in units of the National Park System and the National Wildlife Refuge System
The Secretary of the Interior shall not promulgate or enforce any regulation that prohibits an individual from possessing a firearm including an assembled or functional firearm in any unit of the National Park System or the National Wildlife Refuge System if—(1) the individual is not otherwise prohibited by law from possessing the firearm; and
(2) the possession of the firearm is in compliance with the law of the State in which the unit of the National Park System or the National Wildlife Refuge System is located.
In reality this issue will probably never be raised but I though it could be an interesting technical discussion if anyone wants to opine. I think a cogent argument could be made that such an LEO is technically non-compliant and therefore not afforded the tolling of the DOI regs.IANAL
