Default Slowing gun sales causing layoffs

Nearly 100 employees are being laid off from Savage Arms in Westfield.

Tim Brandt, spokesperson for ATK Sporting, says that on Friday, the company announced changes at two ATK facilities – Savage Arms in Westfield, and another site in Lakefield, Ontario.

Those changes will result in a reduction of 95 employees in Westfield.

Remington Arms, the Ilion, Herkimer County, gun manufacturer, is laying off 105 workers in New York as part of its expansion in Alabama.

A spokesman for Sen. James Seward, R-Milford, Otsego County, who represents the Mohawk Valley plant, confirmed the layoffs today. It was first reported by WKTV in Utica.

The announcement of cuts at the plant, which has about 1,300 employees, was expected after Remington announced in February that it would expand in Alabama.

Seward in February said Remington assured him that it's not leaving New York, but he blamed New York’s gun-control law adopted in January 2012 as a reason why Remington is not expanding in New York.

A Seward spokesman, Jeff Bishop, said 75 percent of the cuts are due to the new plant, and the rest is due to market conditions.

Sounds like the market is going back to normal levels. The employees getting laid off were either overworked during the spike sales or were those hired to meet that demand. Either way, they had to know that the record highest year of sales in history wasn't going to last forever.

The story of Remington, on the other hand, is very telling of the state's environment. They claim to not be moving, but the writing has to be on the wall. A company like Remington can't just lock the doors in NY one day and have guns coming out the door in Alabama the next. They will move the whole thing, one line at a time, lay off 50 in NY and hire 50 in AL, until there's nothing left in NY. And good for them. The state senator in the story clearly has no idea what's going on. *Why would they leave us, we treat them so well and love and respect them* Yea.

I deliver aluminum to a company that makes a large percentage of Sig AR rifles. Their workforce took a massive hit about 4-6 months ago. No actual numbers, but I would guess it was reduced by at least 50%.

Hopefully they will do the same thing that Beretta did. The libtard states want their tax money but vilify their products. Fuck them. They can't have it both ways.

For us, our markup isnt that much that it would give us room to do discounts. We live via volume.

Grice gun shop in Clearfield has Remington and Para 1911`s for $425.00 after rebate. So there are many deals out there just not on ammo yet.
