    Default Ruger LCP slide rusting

My LCP has a bit of rust on the slide just rear of the slide serrations on the left side of the pistol. It wipes right off with my thumb, but has come back about 3 times now. I admit it got a little dry recently, I haven't had time to put some oil on it. And I was pocket carrying in some jeans and sweating. My question is, what are my next steps in ensuring a rustless pistol? Thanks!

Nothing can be done for it, you have a total mess there now. I will take it off your hands and dispose of it properly. Just let me know where to pick it up. I will not even charge you a disposal fee. JK

I am not sure but you may be able to use one of the touch up kits that are on the market. I haven't used any myself but have heard they are o.k. for minor touch ups. I have a revolver that had a little rust on it I used some super fine steel wool to clean it off and kept it coated with a light coat of gun oil. It keep the rust off untill you let it dry out for too long.

If you pocket carry daily, wipe it every night with oil or a Remington rag. Sweat's brutal on a blued gun.

Yeah my buddy does a lot of work outside (landscaping) and his rusted almost the entire side that faces his body. It looks like shit, but - hasn't effected the way the gun operates.

I tried scrubbing it down with oil, but the finish it pretty much jacked at this point. I then cleaned all the oil off and tried some cold blue without any type of improvement either.

Ended up just oiling it back up and telling him to make a bigger habit of keeping it oiled.

Mine has finish wear on all the edges from being carried. But since I don't sweat through my clothes at work. I haven't had trouble with rust. The joys of a desk job...

Maybe you could use a silicone cloth to keep the rust from comming back. Has anyone out there used this method and does it seem to work?

If you do it daily and try not to sweat on the gun. Hard to beat oil though.

Buy a DeSantis Nemesis for it and carry it in that, its waterproof so no sweat will reach it , buy a can of Brownells polymer finish and re do the slide, it will never rust again with that stuff. I carry My LCP in my pocket too but i always carry it in the Nemesis.

Back in the late 80's, I had a Norinco clone of the 1911, and due to the bluing being thin in one area on the slide, it developed a similiar rusting issue. I found keeping it wrapped in a silicone cloth (included with my brownells cleaning kit) did well to keep the rust at bay between oilings.
