Default Mossberg 500- Broken Trigger Guard....Replacement Adivce?

    Hello All,

I have a 12ga Mossberg 500 with a broken trigger guard. I believe it is out of warranty, and it was handed down from a family member

My manual and research tells me I need to replace the Trigger Housing Assembly Part# 15. However, this is a restricted part.

A brief call to Mossberg, I found out that I would have to ship them my shotgun to replace the part. They could not give me an idea on cost.

I've found these trigger assemblies for sale at gunbroker.com from time to time.

    Questions:

    1) Would there a be good reason(s) to not use a trigger assembly purchased from an independent seller?

    2) Would/should a gunsmith be able to order and install the part? ( I think it is the installation that makes the part restricted- though I could easily replace it myself).......and for extra credit.....any recommendations for anyone in Lancaster County?

I appreciate the help- Thank you!

    -Matt

I seem to recall that a good portion of the 590 shotgun shares parts with the 500. I know the 590's at work have a metal trigger guard vs the plastic ones.

For your first question my only advice is to inspect any used parts and make sure its 100% complete. I agree that via the internet that can be a problem as its usually on the buyer to do all the legwork so to speak.

You could also go this route: http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/sid=2...USING_ASSEMBLY

    OR: http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=2...igger_Assembly

    OR: http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct...tNumber=644939

The one link to brownells is for the metal part but is back ordered. None of the parts say anything about having to ship to an FFL/gunsmith so I'm willing to bet that you can just order it and fix it at home in about 20 min.

If you go that route try looking for a how to vid on how to assemble the gun. I've had a few apart and they can be a little tricky going back together the first time or two.

I didn't think to check Midway......and it is cheaper there than what I've seen on gun broker.

Looks like this will be easier than I thought..thanks for the links+advice!
